Drum Session Photography at Real World Studios
We spent three days capturing lifestyle photography at Real World Studios to document the creation of a Toontrack drum sample library with multi-grammy winning producer Kevin Killen.

Toontrack create expansive drum sample libraries, recorded in interesting studios, by interesting people. For this project, we were asked to capture photography for a new library recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios with multi-grammy winning producer Kevin Killen.
Our goal was to capture the essence of the recording session, showcasing the day to day activities of everyone involved, getting a sense of the stunning studio and it’s surroundings, as well as taking some portrait shots of Kevin to be used as the main product image.
"As reel as it gets"

About the Project
We spent three days at the studio capturing the photography, right in the middle of the two week session, so things were very much in full swing, and we needed to do our best not to interrupt the session too much. Thankfully, with the nature of the recording session being extremely dynamic, with people moving around all over the place, finding interesting moments to photograph wasn’t an issue. However this did mean that setting up dedicated lights was not going to work for the majority of the shots we needed, so we embraced the natural light in the studio.
It was important for the photography to have a natural, documentary feel, transporting the viewer into the studio, so natural light worked well to give that “real” look. For the portraits of Kevin, we earmarked a portion of downtime in the session and so were able to take a bit more time on them, so we set up a few lights around the studio to ensure Kevin was properly lit, while also keeping the natural studio vibe.
"Photos look absolutely amazing! Spectacular.
Thanks again for another amazing project."
