Dog Rescue Christmas Video

For a Christmas dog rescue campaign, we crafted a moving video exploring grief and new beginnings, using emotive visuals to inspire donations and show the healing power of companionship.

The charity wanted to show a person and a dog (each having lost someone) finding each other and beginning a new chapter together. The challenge? To communicate all of this without dialogue, within a short film format. We had to be intentional with every shot, building a narrative around empathy and connection while challenging the assumption that dogs in rescue centres are always unwanted - sometimes, they’ve simply lost someone too.

Storyboard and Planning

With no dialogue to rely on, every visual decision had to speak volumes. From wardrobe and lighting to music and colour grading, each frame was carefully crafted to convey emotion and meaning. The story began with a box of belongings - a gentle way to show that the dog had lost someone close. A framed photo subtly hinted at the love and life that came before. Visual contrasts helped carry the emotional arc: grief and hope, loneliness and connection.

Filming at a working rescue centre brought real-world challenges, like adapting to last-minute changes. We had just one day to film, so flexibility was key. Our canine star (actually the CEO’s own dog) was quite shy, so we built the shoot around his comfort, using toys, treats, and lots of patience. Some scenes were reimagined on the spot, but with a strong narrative foundation in place, we could be flexible while still delivering a cohesive, heartfelt story.

"Professional, creative and dog lovers at heart, Alex and Harry made the entire process seamless and enjoyable. We can’t thank them enough for helping us share our story in such a meaningful way."
