Popular guitar magazine Guitar.com were running a campaign with Martin Guitars to showcase their recent Hawaiian inspired O'ahu range.

The goal of this video was not only to show of the features and audio quality of these guitars, but also the story behind them and the influence of Hawaiian culture in popular music. We worked with Guitar.com contributor, Michael Watts, who presented to camera and expertly played a selection of sound examples, while we focussed on filming and recording.

About the Project

We filmed this project at Dawsons Music on the famous Denmark Street in London, famous for an eclectic range of guitar shops. One of the requests from the client was to make use of the magnificent wall of Martin guitars in the shop, so we decided to use it as the backdrop for the whole video. With such an impressive backdrop, we needed to make sure it wasn’t too much of a distraction from the video, so we decided to give the video quite a cosy and intimate vibe, creating a soft spotlight behind Michael as he was presenting to separate him from the background, but allowing the rest of it to fall off into darkness.

We enjoyed the challenge of recording the acoustic guitar properly, luckily this was actually Harry’s background before he got into cameras, so it’s always nice when we can incorporate that into a project. Michael had prepared a number of different musical examples which we then pieced together in the edit to form a cohesive music bed, smoothly moving in and out of talking and audio examples without jolting you out of the video.
